St. Catherines Edge Collegiate 1 - 0

On Friday afternoon at the Collegiate’s Robins Fields two VISAA and RVA girl soccer powerhouses met for the first time this season. After a scoreless 1st half, in a match where field position was mostly dictated by the wind, St. Catherine’s broke the scoring drought with 22 minutes remaining in the game when Mary Clarke Wallace scored on a ball being batted around from just inside the 6 yard mark. After the game she remarked “it was being bobbled around and I got the 2nd take at it.”
The rest of the game was marked by a furious attempt by Collegiate to score the tying goal and the Saints trying to hold them at bay.
GK Ashley Boardman, who notched another shutout, credited her defensive line on the good showing. “The defensive line is the key. It sets everyone else up.”
Coach Laurie Marshalek was quite pleased after the match. “Collegiate is such an excellent team. Their forwards are so strong. Fortunately we stuck to the plan…we executed.”
